Coastal management issues in the face of the effects of global change are universal. Exchanging and pooling experience is the key to understanding them.
The Manyange Na Elombo Campo Marine Park is Cameroon’s largest Marine Protected Area (MPA), established by the state to preserve marine biodiversity and support artisanal fishing. However, few measures have been taken to enable the park to fulfill its function, given the many threats it faces.
The main objective of REPAMAC, led by AMMCO in partnership with Septentrion Environnement and Tube Awu, is twofold: to carry out an ecological diagnosis to gain a better understanding of the coastal and marine territory, and to strengthen the capacities of local stakeholders, particularly the communities that are strongly committed, to achieve their objectives of sustainable management of the Marine Park.
Planned actions will thus include improving knowledge of the MPA’s values in order to adapt management measures, strengthening the governance of artisanal fishing, raising stakeholder awareness of the importance of the MPA and enhancing the value of artisanal fishing products.
In this context, Septentrion Environnement will contribute its scientific expertise by supervising in situ inventory activities (scientific diving), leading training initiatives for local stakeholders, and assisting in the drafting of management recommendations.
