Impact of ghost nets on marine biodiversity
Adrien Cheminée (Scientific and Educational Director of Septentrion Environnement with a PhD in marine ecology) speaks at the Blue Panda Talks organised by WWF-France during the IUCN congress in Marseille in September 2021.
Nowadays, fishing gears litter the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. Nets, longlines and traps can be found on the seabed. Accidentally lost or deliberately abandoned, these objects are traps for marine mammals, fish and shellfish. Moreover, they are waste products that pollute the environment with their plastic and chemical compounds. What solutions can be found to combat these nuisances? This is the subject of this episode of Blue Panda Talks.
